Statement on the withdrawal of U.S. from climate pact

It's important for our members, customers and communities to know that Kaiser Permanente stands behind its commitment to combat climate change. A key part of our mission for more than 70 years has been to improve the health of our members and the communities we serve, and as we've seen, climate change is already causing health effects that will dramatically worsen unless action is taken to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We must stand up for cleaner air and water in order to improve health.

We remain committed to cutting down our carbon footprint. We have reduced our greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent, and we are working to remove even more emissions from the atmosphere through the design of our facilities and use of renewable energy. Last year, we set a goal of being carbon net positive by the year 2025. We will continue our work to achieve these ambitious goals.

We encourage other organizations and policymakers to do what they can to combat climate change.
