HONOLULU — Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center’s youngest patients celebrated Halloween at the hospital’s annual trick-or-treat event. Seven pediatric patients ranging in age from toddlers to teens traveled through nearly every floor of the facility, showing off their costumes in exchange for healthy Halloween treats.
Dressed as superheroes and movie characters, keiki visited General Surgery, Cardiology, Food & Nutrition and other departments to take in the hospital’s Halloween decorations and meet physicians and staff in costume. Along the way, they collected a bounty of Halloween goodies, including stickers, coloring books and healthy snacks. Young patients who were unable to leave the pediatrics floor received a special delivery of Halloween treats delivered to their rooms by staff members.
“A hospital stay can be difficult for our young patients and their families. With our trick-or-treat event, they get to dress up, enjoy treats and celebrate with their friends, just as they normally would,” said Angelita Juan, Child Life Services coordinator at Moanalua Medical Center. “Our physicians, providers and staff enjoy dressing up and brightening our patients’ days with a bit of Halloween fun.”
