Superheroes and princesses enjoyed Halloween-themed games, crafts, and healthy treats at the hospital’s annual event.
HONOLULU — Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center held its annual trick-or-treat event for the hospital’s youngest patients, celebrating Halloween with festive costumes, decorations, a photo booth, and healthy treats. A dozen participants ranging in age from toddlers to teens traveled through every floor of the facility, showing off their costumes in exchange for stickers, coloring books, and healthy snacks from physicians and staff.
Dressed as superheroes and cartoon characters, “keiki” — the Hawaiian word for children — visited General Surgery, Cardiology, Food and Nutrition, and other departments to take in the hospital’s Halloween decorations and meet physicians and staff in costume. Young patients who were unable to leave the pediatrics floor received a special delivery of Halloween treats to their rooms by staff members. After trick-or-treating, keiki got to enjoy Halloween-themed games, crafts, and cookie decorating.
“Our annual Halloween trick-or-treat event is a favorite for physicians, staff, and parents, because it allows our young patients to celebrate the holidays without leaving the hospital,” said Kathryn Martin, RN, manager of pediatrics at Moanalua Medical Center. “We look forward to brightening the spirits of all our keiki with healthy treats and festive Halloween fun.”
