Physician musical group to spread holiday cheer in Oahu

HONOLULU — Kaiser Permanente’s physician musical group, Medical Notes, performed classic holiday songs for staff, patients and visitors at the Kaiser Permanente Waipio Medical Office today. The group will also perform on Dec. 14 at the Kaiser Permanente Honolulu Medical Office and on Dec. 21 at the Moanalua Medical Center.

Dermatologist Allyson Spence-Shishido, MD, pulmonary specialist Janet Myers, MD, and allergy specialist Matthew Lau, MD, will be on violin. Internist Aaron Choy, MD, will be on cello and audiologist Chantelle Nakata will be on viola. The string quintet will be joined for two performances by surgeon and violinist Rebecca Sawai, MD. Family doctor Gary Yap, MD, will join the group for one performance on the viola.

“This is becoming a fun tradition during the holiday season that we all embrace as doctors and musicians,” said Dr. Shishido. “We know medical treatment can be very serious; our performances are wonderful opportunities to help people relax, smile and enjoy a little holiday cheer. Being able to spread happiness at this time of year is a gift everyone in Medical Notes appreciates and cherishes.”

All three performances will run from noon to 12:45 pm and will feature favorites such as “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “The Christmas Song.”
