LOS ANGELES — As part of its commitment to aid the most vulnerable people in the communities it serves, Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center will act as a deployment location during the Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count, the largest homeless census in the nation, on Thursday, January 26.
In partnership with the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, about 60 Kaiser Permanente employees, physicians and members, as well as local area residents, will canvas the surrounding communities to capture the number of individuals experiencing homelessness in the West Los Angeles area.
“I don’t just work in this community. I also live here,” said Cynthia Berry, a project manager at Kaiser Permanente, who volunteered at the Homeless Count event last year. “I’ve seen homelessness grow as a problem and I’m proud that we’re doing our part to help the individuals and families in our neighborhood.”
Last year’s count found more than 46,000 individuals experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles County — an increase of 2,515 people, according to LAHSA.
“Individuals experiencing homelessness are among the most vulnerable in our communities,” says Celia Brugman, Community Benefit health manager, who works at the Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center. Kaiser Permanente employees are proud to partner with LAHSA on this important project. By accurately identifying the number of individuals who are homeless, we can advocate more effectively for these individuals and make better use of funding and resources to improve their quality of life.”
