Kaiser Permanente Sponsors Community Workday at Ala Wai Elementary School

HONOLULU — Parents, students, faculty and volunteers from Kaiser Permanente Hawaii gathered for a community workday at Ala Wai Elementary School today to help beautify the campus. The event, which drew nearly 75 volunteers, was sponsored by Kaiser Permanente Hawaii as part of an ongoing initiative to support healthy learning environments for keiki by restoring and beautifying school campuses.

Volunteers planted sod and potted plants, built planters for trees out of stone pavers and completed general maintenance around the school. Kaiser Permanente provided lunch and materials for the workday.

“We’re proud to work with Ala Wai Elementary to help beautify their campus and instill in students a sense of pride for their school,” said David Tumilowicz, vice president of communications at Kaiser Permanente Hawaii. “We look forward to supporting even more public schools in 2018 by sponsoring and participating in a number of community workdays throughout the year.”

Kaiser Permanente Hawaii has partnered with Hawaii 3R’s, an organization founded by the late U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye, to identify and complete impactful projects at schools across the state. Work at the school was due in part to Hawaii 3R's, which provided a grant for $11,500.

"Partnerships like these help us provide the best possible learning environment for our keiki," said Ala Wai Elementary School Principal Michelle DeBusca. "We'd like to thank Kaiser Permanente for supporting our school and demonstrating the power of community service to our students."
